Mayor Richard K. Mavis was elected to his position in
1996. Prior to that, he was Knox County Commissioner
for 20 years, during which time he was also
owner/operator of Westgate Mobile Home Park and owner of
Mavis Sporting Goods, after a career in education in
California, Wooster and Mount Vernon, where he taught
science and math and coached football, basketball and
track. He is currently involved with the State Solid
Waste Advisory Council, Policy Committee for the
Knox/Delaware/Morrow/Marion Solid Waste District, Senior
Citizen Board, Woodward Development Corp., Knox County
Regional Planning Commission, District 17 Executive
Committee, and Area Development Foundation. Mayor Mavis
has served on a number of other committees and
organizations. He hails from Danville High School and
Otterbein College where he obtained his Bachelor of
Science Degree in Elementary Education. He and his
wife, Peggy, reside in Mount Vernon.
State Representative Thom Collier
90th Ohio House District
State Representative Thom Collier
was appointed to the Ohio House of Representatives in
September of 2000. Thom is now serving his fourth full
term in the Ohio House. He represents the 90th House
District, which includes Morrow and Knox Counties as
well as portions of Richland and Ashland Counties.
Representative Collier serves as
Chairman of the House Economic Development and
Environment Committee. He is also on the Commerce and
Labor, Education and State Government Committees.
Prior to joining the House,
Representative Collier served on City Council in Mount
Vernon. He is a licensed Realtor and property manager
in Mount Vernon. Representative Collier is also the
President of Thom Collier & Associates providing public
speaking, consulting, and small business brokering.
Collier has been given several
legislative awards in his tenure; some of those include
recognitions from the American Council of the Blind of
Ohio, the Ohio Association of Medical Equipment
Services, AMVETS, Bowhay Institute for Legislative
Leadership (BILLD) and the Council of State Governments
Toll Fellow.
Representative Collier has been
active in his community through his involvement with the
National Speakers Association-Ohio Chapter, Big
Brothers/Big Sisters in Knox County, the Knox County
Mental Health Association, Knox County Right to Life and
the National Exchange Club. He is also a leader in his
church.
Thom is a life long resident of
Knox County and resides in Mount Vernon with his wife
Diane and their two daughters, Cathern and Natoli.
